SUN MDT DISTRIBUTOR TEST MACHINE IGNITION TESTER CONDENSER TESTER

SUN MASTER DISTRIBUTOR TESTER FOR SALE

From the late fifties, has set up information on a Roladaex type index in the top of the machine.

Set up the advance curve on both mechanical and vacuum advance.

Test points and condensers, check the lobes are evenly spaced and for play in the shaft.

Strobe / Flashtube works correctly.

Needs some cleaning and re calibration.

Some of the wiring is showing it’s age so could do with some replacing although it does work correctly and shows no sign of shorting etc.

An instruction ‘manual’ can be provided although it’s all very straightforward.

This machine has the rare feature of a Manometer, sometimes referred to as the ‘holy grail’ of SUN accessories. The manometer is a very sensitive vacuum gauge used on Mercury, Ford, Lincoln and Edsel which used a Holley Load-a-matic distributor which did not have mechanical advance, they only had vacuum advance and it had to be set very precisely, setting them correctly was/is critical.

This machine runs off a 110 volt 60HZ transformer, some times called a step up step down transformer, 240 volts in 110 volts out, I purchased mine off eBay for under £30, 2 ‘D’ cell battery’s power the gauges and a 6 volt battery powers the flashtube, I use a 6 volt mobility scooter battery to power mine which cost me £20.

Parts are available from a USA company to do away with the battery’s and run off the transformer and an LED to replace the flashtube.

Selling for £800

Collection from Norwich preferred.
